Wrought iron has been used for centuries by civilizations across the world. It has been made for a variety of uses including tools and weapons. The first documented use of wrought iron was in the Roman empire, when they used it for furniture as we do today except it was only used indoors. Commercial blacksmiths started by turning the natural iron ore into a malleable substance by heating it at extreme temperatures with coal. Blacksmiths were often regarded as wizards because they could make rings, nails, chains, swords & iron artwork from a simple hunk of iron.

From the Industrial Revolution, spawned a new way to create wrought iron works. This "puddle iron" process would ensure that the iron would be extremely durable, even in the outdoors. Due to this advancement, cast iron furniture production skyrocketed and the popularity grew exponentially from the 17 to 1900s. Modern day iron furniture is made of a variety of hyper-alloys that allow for intricate design and durability.
